What did everyone think of the nominations today? Biggest surprises, obvious snubs?

I just don’t understand the point of having a Musical category if they’re gonna nominate not 1, but 2 musicals for Best Drama. One of them also happened to be bad, which is extremely annoying

I’m thrilled to see “Crazy Rich Asians” receive nominations for the film categories. As for television, I’m overjoyed that “The Americans” is being represented.

For TV, WHERE IS ATLANTA?!?!

As for snubs, I expected more for “This Is Us” in the acting categories, but I’m completely shocked that “Atlanta” got nothing. That is downright ridiculous.

I’m kinda glad that This Is Us isn’t getting noms anymore tbh. It shouldn’t be in the same conversation as, say, Killing Eve and Homecoming

Even though This Is Us isn’t on the same level as it used to be, I still think the performances are top notch. I thought Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia would have been safe picks as nominees.

That’s fair, especially Mandy. TV-wise, I’m thrilled The Good Place is finally getting some awards love, though I’ll fully admit I’ve never heard of The Kominsky Method, which leads me to believe it probably shouldn’t be there

The Good Place being acknowledged is fantastic. I’m especially happy that Kristen Bell was nominated, because she has been wonderful this season.

Like, what is it??? Movie-wise, what are your thoughts on Bohemian Rhapsody? My take: great concert scenes, but the talking in between them was garbage

I enjoyed Bohemian Rhapsody, including some of the dialogue, but I feel like a lot of it was forgettable. The concert scenes blew me away though.

I’m not at all surprised to see Bohemian Rhapsody be nominated though. I felt it coming before the film even released.

Rami Malek was great, but it’s a mediocre movie otherwise. Putting it up against something like If Beale Street Could Talk is laughable

Question from Ben Trenda
are we seeing a trend with episodic content being stronger than the film categories?

Ben: Totally. Homecoming was probably better than any movie I’ve seen this year so far

I agree with that. To me, what is airing on television now is far more interesting and impactful that what’s on the big screen.

Yeah, and honestly my favorite movies this year were Blindspotting, The Hate U Give and Sorry to Bother You, none of which were nominated and ALL of which are better than Bohemian Rhapsody
